ABOUT

“Pop music that is very international but undeniably West-Indian”

Breve came together in 2012 by jazz/gospel bassist Gomez Drigo and Caribbean Soul fusion drummer and composer Kenrick Lawrence. The pair soon recruited Finnish award winning saxophonist Jussi Paavola. Jussi and Gomez’s love for jazz and improvisation paired by Kenrick’s profeciency in Caribbean polyrythms and soul fusion melded together to form an extremely unique sound. In 2013, young guitar prodigy Marxian Smith joined the band, followed by Jade Leatham, lead singer songwriter. Gospel keyboardist Wayne Henry completes the band.

Thereafter, Breve started recording original music.

From the frst songwriting session, which gave birth to local hit, Leve Encore, it was obvious that they were creating something special. Whimsical melodies flowed onto Caribbean beats  accented by Marxian’s unique melodious guitar phrasings and Jade’s rich contralto tone gave the music a style that the band has labelled as Caribbean pop.

The bandhouse located in Wallhouse and this is where songs are produced, arranged, written and recorded.  This locale is where band’s meetings, practice as well as rehearsals with International artistes, with Breve as backing band.  The bandhouse has also laid the foundation for a few Dominican budding artists interested in the music industry and has given them opportunities to perform at live gigs. Each bandmember is involved in providing voluntary musical education, as well as going into Primary and Secondary Schools and Churches across Dominica to insipire and shape the next generation of artists.

“Without question [BREVE] , the stars of this year’s (2015) Jazz and Creole Fringe Events…this locale ensemble of exceptionally talented musicians essentially covering all six events and killed it everytime.”  -Embrace Dominica (2015)
